No More Troubling The Neighbors To Carry My Wheelchair!--The Community's Accessibility Renovation Has Warmed People's Hearts.

Nov 18, 2025

"The accessible elevator at the entrance of our apartment building is finally brand new! Now I can easily get in and out in my wheelchair by myself, without having to bother my neighbors to carry me up and down anymore. It makes me feel so much more at ease," residents of Greenwich Gardens recently expressed their praise for the newly installed elevator.

The first unit of the Phase II hydraulic wheelchair lift (accessible elevator) upgrade project in Greenwich Gardens was installed and officially put into use on November 14th, providing greater convenience for residents with mobility impairments and improving the overall environment of the community.

Greenwich Gardens is a residential community in Riverside. Due to the numerous steps at the entrances of each building, the developer initially designed outdoor elevators as accessible pathways. However, as the equipment aged, these elevators gradually became unusable. With the increasing proportion of elderly residents in the community, the demand for accessible facilities has grown, creating numerous difficulties for the elderly, disabled, and those with mobility impairments.

To help residents realize their desire for barrier-free access as soon as possible, the Greenwich Gardens Community Association actively built a communication platform, leading a tripartite meeting with the homeowners' association, property management, and resident representatives to widely solicit opinions from all parties and conducting multiple building-level opinion surveys. Building managers and volunteers worked in groups to mobilize residents, fully understand their wishes and suggestions regarding the renovation project, and negotiate implementation details, ultimately ensuring the smooth approval of the renovation project.

Reflecting on the entire process of the first barrier-free elevator renovation, from opinion solicitation to official opening, Liz Johnson, President of the Greenwich Gardens Community Association, remarked, "We are truly delighted to see seniors and residents with mobility impairments using the new barrier-free elevator, making their daily lives more convenient and comfortable! We hope this success story will encourage other buildings in need to install barrier-free elevators as soon as possible, so that seniors 'suspended' at home no longer feel isolated."

Going forward, the Greenwich Gardens Community Association will continue to build communication platforms, integrate resources from various parties, and strive for greater resident understanding and cooperation to promote the renovation and commissioning of more barrier-free elevators, further creating a comfortable, safe, and convenient community living environment.
