Norwegian Engineering Companies Praise Chinese Smart Manufacturing: All-terrain Cranes Reshape Nordic Infrastructure Standards

Apr 21, 2025

Recently, Eric Johansen, project manager of a Norwegian construction company, published a long article on social media, sharing the actual performance of the CATHAYLIFT all-terrain crawler crane he purchased in the project, which attracted widespread attention from the European engineering community.

"This equipment has completely changed our perception of 'Made in China'." Eric said that in the extremely cold environment below zero, the dual-mode power system of this model showed amazing adaptability: the pure electric mode saves about 580 euros in fuel costs compared with traditional diesel models; the hybrid mode successfully coped with the sudden blizzard weather in the polar region, and the equipment stability far exceeded similar products in Europe and the United States.

What amazed the team even more was its ability to conquer terrain. When hoisting wind turbine blades on the slope of the ice field, the crane automatically adjusted the center of gravity through real-time posture compensation, and the operation accuracy was always kept within ±2cm. "In the past, high-risk operations that required the collaboration of three devices can now be completed by a single person remote control." Eric specifically mentioned that the equipped intelligent protection system has successfully warned of two potential ice collapse accidents, saving the project team millions of euros in losses.

In terms of economic benefits, the equipment showed its advantages after operating for half a year: maintenance frequency was reduced and the cost of spare parts loss was reduced. With the help of predictive maintenance models, the operating efficiency was improved by 4 times compared with its original equipment. "This is not only a machine, but also the key to the Nordic environmental protection market." Eric revealed that with the low-carbon certification of the equipment, the company has won three green infrastructure bids of the Norwegian government.

At present, the number of CATHAYLIFT in the European market has increased year-on-year, and its pure electric version with EU CE certification is becoming a technical solution to cope with the European carbon border tax. Eric finally emphasized: "In the intelligent low-carbon transformation of construction machinery, Chinese brands have changed from 'chasers' to 'definers'."
